Allium Press of Chicago publishes literary fiction, historical fiction, mysteries, thrillers, and middle grade/young adult fiction.

To date, all of our titles have a strong Chicago connection.

We only publish a small number of titles each year. We do not publish memoirs, self-help books, how-to guides, horror/fantasy/science fiction, romance fiction, erotica, poetry, etc.

We only publish full-length novels, not novellas or short stories.

We are actively seeking works by diverse authors/own voices and novels with diverse characters.

Please take the time to carefully look at our titles to see if your work fits into our niche.

WE ACCEPT SUBMISSIONS VIA EMAIL ONLY. Do not mail query letters or unsolicited manuscripts to our offices. If you are interested in submitting, please first send an EMAIL including the following information:

  • Two to three paragraphs describing your book; be sure to indicate its genre
  • One paragraph outlining your background (include previous publications, if any)
  • One paragraph with details of any experience you may have marketing your work
  • The word count of your manuscript

If we are interested in your book we will request the first three chapters and a synopsis (1-2 pages), to be sent via email. If we are still interested after receiving the first chapters, we will request the full manuscript.

All manuscripts (whether first chapters or full) should be in Microsoft Word. Text should be in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with one-inch margins. It is imperative that you have carefully checked your manuscript for punctuation, spelling, and grammar issues. Refer to the Chicago Manual of Style if you have questions about formatting.

When sending chapters you must combine them into one Word document and include page numbers. Manuscripts will NOT be returned, so please do not send a stamped return mailer.

We are a small press, and while we usually respond very promptly to initial queries, it may take three to six months to respond to your submission of first chapters. We cannot take phone calls or emails regarding the status of your manuscript. We will respond to your submission once it has been read, whether we are interested in publishing it or not. If you have not heard from us within six months, have accepted a contract with another publisher, or wish to remove your manuscript from submission, you may contact us by email.

Correspondence regarding submissions should be made by email only. Use this address: submissions [at] alliumpress.com.

Thank you for taking the time to familiarize yourself with our submissions guidelines.
